About Max Baptiste

Max Baptiste is a New Mexico artist whose work explores landscape through reduction.

Born in Taos and raised in San Cristobal, Max grew up surrounded by the expansive skies, changing light, and long horizons of Northern New Mexico. Those visual memories remain at the center of his practice.

His paintings reduce landscape to its most essential elements: color, horizon, light, and space. Working on glass, Max creates compositions that are minimal in form but deeply connected to place. The reflective surface gives the work a shifting quality, allowing light and surroundings to become part of the painting itself.

Rather than attempting to reproduce a specific landscape, Max is interested in the feeling that remains after the details fall away.

The work is quiet, direct, and intentionally restrained.

Max has exhibited throughout New Mexico and beyond, and his paintings are held in private and public collections across the United States and around the world. His broader creative practice has also included curatorial work, community arts initiatives, design, and major public-art projects.

For Max, art is not separate from place, memory, or community. It is a way of distilling experience into something simple enough to feel universal.

Collectors can join the Private Collector List for advance access to new work, private releases, and occasional studio invitations.

“After seeing your work for the first time, my vertigo went away. Your arte is direct healing.”
